Westcoaster, where you going to get steelies from..?

Do they even make steelies to fit the S..?

I was going to look on gumtree, alternatively just get the 16"s from the X and stick on some nice AT's.  Hub configuration is the same.  The S rims are effectively the same (size/specs) as the other 17" options.

The steelies are just a thought at the moment - I think I'll end up going for slightly oversized AT's (235/60/17) on the existing S rims...
Current: S-edition 2011 Steel Silver (S-exy young thing) - Forged, Chett tjooned, 76mm s/s wrapped DP, King Springs, 225/60/17 G012s, Sump & AT guards, cheap mud flaps, HID fogs, LED parks.
Ex:        2.5X man 2010 Pearl White (Dirty Girl) - LSS lift, 235/60/16 G012s, Sump guard, HIDs and more..

Ja tog. The main reason I went to 16" instead of 17" at the time was that the 16" was almost R1000 cheaper per tyre.
Now they cost about the same for the AT-S. doh!

What was the cause of the oscillation?

What was the cause of the oscillation?

Too many pills, my friend.

If you don't know what the restricor pill does, read here

Now, according to the following picture, the pill is located in line 1, which is correct:

However, My XT, and apparently all SH XT's, has a second pill located in Line 2.

(The following explanation may not be 100% correct but this is what my theory is)

This can cause the wastegate actuator not getting enough pressure to open when the the Boost Control Solenoid (BCS) opens to bleed off pressure, causing the turbo to over-boost. The ECU detects the overboost and closes the BCS causing the pressure to rise to the wastegate actuator, thus opening it to drop the boost. But since the programmed Waste Gate Duty Cycle calls for the BCS to operate, it opens again causing the Waste-gate not to operate and overboosting again and so it goes round-and-round ;-)

So, thanks to Mark at Subaru Somerset-West's advice, I removed the second pill in line 2 and it operates fine now.

EDIT: However, I still experience a slight boost spike when accelerating. I think my BCS might be dirty causing it to be lazy. I'll try cleaning it out sometime to see if it improves.

I think, under correction, the official spec for the SG9 was 0-100 in 6.7 seconds. The SH was 7.9.
It is due to different gearing and diff ratio to improve fuel consumption.

That said, the best I could ever manage in my SG manual, according to the Torque app on my android phone which should be pretty accurate, is 9 seconds.
I can't launch it properly as I can't bring myself to drop the clutch to do a proper launch.
On my SH Auto (easy to launch a Automatic, just hold the brake, floor the throttle and realese the brake) I can manage 8.33 seconds. Not far from the spec ;-)

May be of significance:

The first week of January my Impreza GT had a leaking radiator hose. There was no genuine replacement part in the country- had to be imported from Japan. Subaru Somerset West loaned me a Sage Green 09 XT for about a week. I don't think that it was your one - I don't recall it having a CY number and it certainly didn't have those wheels. However, on Thursday 10 January they borrowed the XT back for a day and a half to "compare it to a customer's vehicle" that was having surge problems. By that I assume they tried out parts from one XT on the other. Anyway, when we got the Sage Green back it was running as well as previously.

For what its worth, on my Impreza GT I had boost control problems from about 125,000 km. The source could never be identified. Eventually, out of desperation, at 160,000 I installed a TurboSmart mechanical boost control valve and have never looked back (now aproaching 350,000 km on original motor).

regards - Peter

Well. it did not have those wheels on.
This is what it looked like before I bought it:

The thing is, I did not experience any boost issues until I got to an altitude 1000m above sea level.

Well it may be the same one. The only identifying mark I recall was a bad chip in the windscreen - pasenger side.
