Is there anyone in Gauteng who can assist me.. Tried on the SOCSA site.. Not much help..

As I owned two Evo's in the past and sorted their SW etc myself I know RomRaider etc quite well.. I have all the cables etc needed to do the above.

As its a JDM spec car I seem to have problems reading the Ecu. All I need is to get the base map off the Ecu to sort the JDM speed limiter issue. I have a HKS speed delimiter wired in at the moment. But first prize would be to do it on the ECU. Then as its JDM and mapped to run 100 octane I would need to lower overall octane value to suite our fuels. This will lower her petrol consumption as at the moment she is trying to compensate for lower octane ... This lowers her performance too. She is fast, make no mistake.. But all I'm doing is wasting fuel as she keeps trying to get more fuel in to compensate...
Any help would be amazing...
I'm a member of RomRaiders, just cant find much in the line of help on that side...

Thanx... I'm friends with Praga (Local FRC agent) he also tried.. As not many guys do the Scoobies. Let alone the rarer JDM spec cars I will keep trying.. Did find 1 or 2 guys... But from chats with other guys about these guys I was advised to steer clear of them. So my quest continues haha...

Hi Lee

I'm sure you know all of this already, but as far as I've read you also need to make other connections to be able to read/flash the ECU as stated in:

Did connect the two green plugs... Jumped the block as required... Still had the same result.

Also the one shown in picture applies to 2005 up only as the 2002 running V8 ecu only requires the green plugs connected.. and the 3 pin plug with 2 wires. My car has manual LSD etc.. the extra plug shown pertains to the electronic diff etc..

Some more silly questions:

1. Are you using a Tactrix cable with EcuFlash to read the ROM?
2. Are you sure the car is in test mode when trying to read the ROM (CEL, fans)?

Little update..
Called SRD.. They were kind enough to offer to try as well.. Short of that they have a base map I can copy to sort my baby.. As I said I have used RomRaider and Open Ecu a lot so can sort map once I have a base to work with. Also I have a few maps I can compare base too.. Already altered one (S203) to the right timing and adjusted the top speed limit etc.. So once I have the comparative base I can load it.. Just dont wanna load it and stuff something up, if I dont think its the right starting base..

If the fans are cycling. You have missed the window to connect.

1. We need more info to help you

2.  Year model, build date(located on door B pillar)
2.1 Ecu version, info is on the ECU box.
2.2 Use learning view or Romraider logger to determine ECU version
2.3 is this ecu version supported by romraider
2.4 Does the car have ECutek

3. What error are you getting.  There are many and the solutions vary.

4.  which version cable do you have?
4.1  do you have the jumper block?

We cannot guess.  They more info you provide the better help you will get.

5. post screenshots or links.

What do you mean lower the OCTANE value "first post"

Thanks Silver...
Octane I refer to is that JDM spec cars have aggressive maps designed to run on 100 octane.. As SA has sh1tty fuel, ultimately the JDM map is destructive when used with lower octane fuels.. I would love to remedy this..
Secondly about reading the ECU, I must admit I've followed the steps as outlined in RomRaiders etc.. But unfortunately had no luck so far. I connected the green plugs.. Put the jumper in place etc..
The cable is an Evoscan cable.. I've used it before to read a Scooby ECU successfully. But it was a 2005.
My ECU is a Denso V8. The numbers on it is as follows
22611AF481
112000-7546

Hope this helps

Just a quick reply ,

The evoscan cable has a different pinout to the scooby cable.  Maybe that's the issue.

Update,  the earlier cars require a specific voltage to read the ecu.  You need the specific cable to get the ecu into flash mode.  (To read or write to it.)

Question

1. when you connect to the ECU. What is the voltage reading in/via the software??  It does not matter what you get across the battery terminals
2. Which specific tables do you intend to change?

I would recommend to contact Marco from Phoenix Performance. He is located on the West Rand in Honeydew if you're prepared to go see him.
