Thank you Tienie (Subaru CT) and Francios (Boabab) for a fantastic outting.

It was great to meet some members (Bravofox & D-ReX that I know of) and to experience what these cars do.

Real pleasure to meet you too, Mitch! It was really nice to see your XT in action and made me miss my old one a little more.
This whole excursion made me realise that the older SG forester seems more suitable for sand driving as the real world ground clearance is better. When you or D-Rex were driving in front of me it was very apparent compared to the newer SH models. I think they just measure it differently so that the newer one seems higher on paper.
Anyway, thanks for sharing your brilliant photography!

Thank you for your kind words.  I'm happy to make high-res copies available. @Bravofox I don't know the figures off-hand, but I think they raised it by 20mm. The cabin is definitely higher. I'm driving on 17" tyres which adds a little. Additionally, I think the Approach and Departure angles are your SH foz is better/greater than the SG.

Btw, are you finding your XT more responsive/powerful down here than in Oranjie especially with the difference in fuel octane? Also, Who do you get to service/repair up there?

Enjoy the rest of your touring :)

Hey guys,

Last Sunday in Atlantis was awesome!. I have the utmost respect for my Forester as there were times when I thought that what I was doing was crazy!!!. I think that we had a brilliant group of people, plenty of laughs, everyone was keen to help and offer assistance where needed without any ego's getting in the way. I can see that Subaru owners are just that much different to owners of other brands as can be seen by the condition of second hand Subaru's (always spotless and well kept).

I have heard that there is a NSRI adventure 4x4 day on 29 September I think.. Would be keen to see some other Foresters there as I am keen to join my mate (who drives another brand not worth mentioning ;).

Thanks again fella's, I had a blast.

Cheers
2008 Forester XS Premium - I are in LOVE with my car :p

Kudos to the photog - great piekchas!

And I am impressed with that dune climb - I don't think I would've otherwise believed the Fozzies could do that !

These cars are quite capable in the sand but a word of caution for those who want to attempt:
You WILL hit your Forester's bumper and sump guard plate going up or down a steep dune.
There were 2 Diesel Foresters and both went home with the plastic sump cover in the boot. That heavy Diesel engine takes it's toll.
My bumper has minor scratches on the bottom, and the plastic sump guard was bent in. I just pulled on it and it popped back out. Not completely, but after some driving when I looked it was fine.
I would strongly suggest a metal sump guard if you plan to do this more often. A nudge-bar my also be helpful but I am not sure if it may actually cause more damage when hit hard.
