Great write up on what sounds like a fantastic trip. Hoping to go up to Southern Namibia in August and wondering if you are on standard rims to take the 225*60*17 tyres. Also have you lifted the suspension? Have been thinking of getting a set of 16" rims in order to fit tyres with a bigger sidewall but maybe a suspension lift is the answer and keep the 17" rims.

Hey Mike
Ja, I'm on std rims, they look different from the other 17", but same size.
So the 225/60/17 is not a problem.  Just remember to also change the spare to same size.  It fits in the wheel well just fine, and there's still space for jumper cables, jack plate, tow strap, etc.
Go and enjoy - it really is magic.

No tyre issues - and I was generally doing 120+ on the gravel whenever possible - Nam is WIDE, man.  5-600km in a day is hard work when all of it's gravel.  We had a few bottom-outs and a few hops due to surprise dips and bumps, but hey, seems it took me a long time to slow down.  The fridge ended up landing on the folded inflatable mattress and so we slept on the cold hard ground until I got round to getting a few patches slapped on...
So I dragged the 2nd spare on the roof along at great (fuel) expense for nothing.  But the G012s gave me confidence, especially in the real offroad sections. And I'm going back to Lesotho for sure and Bots is also in the pipeline, maybe even as part of a Bots-Zambia trip... Anyone keen, let's start planning.

Nice writeup. Now I'm all lus to go to Nam again. Cape cross, Swakop, Luderitz, hmmm.  8)

You did some serious off road stuff there, but a little foolhardy going into those big empty dry spaces alone. I figure you're also lucky to not slide off the dirt roads doing 120kph  :o . One thing you just NEVER DO in Nam is 120 on dirt unless you are very experienced, know the road and have at least 30cm clearance. 30 to 80 MAX! As you mentioned, it takes a long time to slow down on dirt, no amount of fancy electronics will help you either. Quite a few of my relatives who live there and have 1000's of kms on dirt have totaled their cars. The corners, camber, nasty little dips and sudden surface changes from sand to gravel are car killers.

Nou net weer gelees.

Die Foz (en die ou een) het my nog net elke keer impress - no fuss, no drama, take it easy offroad, pick your line and the Foz will take you places you didn't expect.
Love this car!
