And then bye-bye maintenance plan and warranty...

One day I may have to man up to spending half a bar on a vehicle that I enjoy driving less every day than my 6 year old banger. Just not tomorrow please.
True

Well, Subaru SA wasn't happy with the way the BRZ sounded and made a plan by developing a local exhaust with well known zorst shop in PTA, so maybe they'll do the same for the Impreza?
2007 XT Premium Sportshift (Decat, VF48 @ 1.2 bar, STi TMIC, Chett tjooned, BBK, coilovers, etc etc eish!)

there is a sports exhaust optional extra for the new WRX already - but it still does not sound like a true Subaru.

That's correct. Changing the exhaust won't give it the "Subaru rumble" but fitting UEL headers as well should make it sound like a proper Scooby.

Haha not if it's a Subaru SA "development".

Drove the car yesterday. Its very much refined over the previous generation and feels grown up. Its lost a little bit of the hooliganism that the WRX is synonymous with, but still goes like clappers. I prefer the Lineartronic over the Manual, its a superb gearbox.

Test drove both on Saturday. Wife and I both preferred the manual. Had a sports exhaust that we both enjoyed. I actually like the sound.
The CVT was too quiet. More like a sleeper and no drama, but I was SO impressed by that CVT box. It is streets ahead of anyone else out there.
The manual had so much grip and just pulled so well from low rpm. I am used to a bit more torque in my car, but man it was smooth.
Refined inside and I thinks a really good looking car.
Loved the interior too. Some nice bells and whistles without going over the top.
Would definitely buy one over the other rivals.

To quote your article:

I love the boxer rumble; a sound that is so unique, most petrol heads know exactly what it is before it comes down the road. To the average Joe, it’s a car that sounds like its misfiring.

My wife is about as far from a petrol-head as you can get, and she immediately knows when a turbo scooby is about to show up into view in the city :-)

There is a sport exhaust available for the new Rex. Not EJ like, but still better than OEM.
