Sadly - I must say that the sport exhaust that they had fitted to the red WRX that we had at Killarney did not really make much of a difference.

Also got a chance to check it out this past weekend.  Must agree, even with a sports exhaust it is still so quiet!  The layout of the engine bay is also very different from past models.  The turbo is now smack in the middle just behind the radiator with the "downpipe" on the passenger's side.

As far as I can tell 2 things are hindering Subaru sales.

Interior spec comparing to German cars in the same price range
Perception that the drivers are a bunch of angry boy racer yobs.

This car will hopefully change that and sell more units so more people realise just what a damn good car Subaru really is.

I am an under cover yob so this might very well be my next ride. But need the space of an Outback. Outback WXR Impreza. There is my ideal car.

That R probably stands for RACING, because it goes like the clappers

I stopped and had a look at this WRX at the Albany, Western Austrailia, Subaru dealership the day before it was launched in SA.
It is the lower spec, not the premium which is the only one we get here.

Did not ask how much they go for. There was not really a salesperson at the time, as they are mainly an Isuzu dealership that sells KIA and Subaru as well...

I'm sure you have driving the Wide body WRX.

A quick comparison between the two?

Yes, I've spent plenty of time in the Wide Body as well, and much as I enjoyed it, it was never a relaxing car for me to drive - desperate for a 6th gear and turbo lag until 3500, when it came in with a bang.

The new one just feels more "grown up" to me, virtually no turbo lag, as peak torque kicks in very low down, so you simply have a constant and strong "push" of power. Mine is manual, but you really have to try the CVT as it is superb - that box just works for the car, and I was out in it the other day doing some pretty quick twisty stuff and it is fantastic! The torque vectoring on the front wheels really works, as you find yourself going too fast into a corner, she just pulls her nose in and corners with absolute ease.

I would like to try one on a track, as I am really scared of the other idiots on the road [ Durban drivers in general!!......except Dash of course!  ;) ] As a daily drive between here and Umkomaas ( 50 km each way) it is sublime.
