BTW
Parts are not the issue - labour is the killer because it's an engine out job. :(

yeah i tell you what it was a massive sinking feeling.

yeah i also think its crazy expensive and 10 hours labour don't know how long it takes but sounds a little heavy the labour only come to R 5000.00 . my personal opinion is these guys are trying to take me for a bit of a ride.
unfortunately no pics of the radiator yet. i replaced it with a factor one it lasted me a good 170 000km so im happy to replace with the same one.
do you by any chance have the details of Wayne Hay?

Engine out will chase cost up. On my old Discovery2 V8 it was if I recall R14000. That included everything from new bolts, labour, skimming, pressure testing, gaskets etc. I also had the heads ported. Difference is the motor stays inside. Took 2 weeks because of the porting but without I am sure British4x4 would need no more than 72 hours

That R probably stands for RACING, because it goes like the clappers

You can do heads in-car, can't you?

How is this CO2 test done?

Doubt you could do the heads on the car? No space.

They screw a special cap with a tank containing co2 sensitive fluid on then run the engine.  If it changes colour it means there is a leak on the head gaskets.
