Thanks Toffie. The dealership just phoned to say the light is working again after drying out, but they won't renew the seal.
Now to see if a non-dealer Subaru repair shop (Fangio's?) is interested in doing the seals. As a non-mechanic, I'm a little leery of doing the whole thing myself - but if that's the last resort, I now have the whole story. Much appreciated!

I'm in a similar place.

Need to replace my headlights on my '06 FXT.

Could anyone let me know where I can get some HID bulbs from other than the dealership?

It would be greatly appreciated :/

I have a 2007 XT and with the high pressure car wash water got into the left headlight. None of the lights are working after that and if I switch on the lights there is a clacking noise from it. I repaced the low beam bulb but no joy. Does this indicate a problem with the HID igniter or what can the problem be?

Yep it is the ballast...

stripped my bumper and everything else last night after buyign and fitting new D2R bulbs... drivers side headlight is still faulty and ballast had water in it.
after cleaning it and sealing it... it still not working.
Trying to get another OEm ballast is a problem and some guys are saying that putting an after arket ballast might be a problem and mgiht require additional connectors as the after market HID kits are not for D2R bulbs...

Any advise out there i would appreciate it!

Thanks

I bought 2 oem ballasts and just ran them outside the headlight for 2 weeks, then plugged in the old ones and they worked just fine. You need to dry the old ones out. worked for me!

Nothing very special about D2R, I had aftermarket Morimoto ballasts running them until I've upgraded to H1 projectors, using the same ballasts. Additional wiring was required, yes.

Hi Guys

I just bought a 2006 sg9 xt, very excited!
I plan to add pics and say hi but first I have to sort out a headlight issue to conclude roadworthy:

Front left has moisture and the light is not working.
The place i bought from said the bulb is fine as it works on the right side.
So I need to strip the headlight to access the ballast to clean, dry, seal and rebuild etc.
My question is: do i need to remove the whole headlight (and thus bumper), or can i access the ballast from the engine side?
Thanks

Bumper must come off. Ballast sits on the underside of the light.
