There are a couple of different ways you can insert an image to display within a post you make. One way is to have the forum host the image via the attachment system, or by linking to an image that you have hosted elsewhere.

I will show how to link an image from a 3rd party hosting provider, from services like Photobucket, imgur, ImageShack, etc.

To link directly to an image hosted elsewhere, you'll first need to get the direct URL to the image you want to embed within your post. Direct URL's will end with the file format of the image, such as .jpg, .png, .gif, etc. Often times you can locate the direct URL of an image from the share options when viewing the image on the hosting service. An example of a direct image URL would be something like: http://foresterforum.co.za/Themes/Aqua/images/theme/logo.png
Alternatively you can right click on the image, and select the "Copy image URL" text.

Once you have the direct URL of an image you would like to insert into a post, click the Reply button to an existing thread on the forum, or create a new thread to bring up the posting page. On the posting page click on the image button found in the toolbar directly above the message area . Once clicked, an Image URL Alt Text will appear [ url] at your cursor position in the body of the posting page text window. Paste in the direct URL for the image you want to share by pressing CTRL+V within your post between the Alt Text. The text you enter in the Alt Text field is what will display in your post any time the image itself is unable to load, either because the visitor has images disabled in their web browser or if your image hosting provider is having technical issues and is unable to load the image or the image has been deleted from the hosting service.

Once you have the Image URL and Alt Text filled out, click the Preview button to check that your image has linked correctly. Once your post is made, the image will display directly in your message, as you see it in the preview.

The same procedure can be used for Youtube Videos, but by simply pasting the video youtube url between the Alt Text [ youtube]

Thanks for the write-up/instruction.

Question though, how do you link a pic from your own pc?

What are the size limits for embedded pics in a post?

You are not able to link to an image from your own PC, unless you are running it with a static IP address.
It is far safer to store your images on a hosting site like I mentioned in the OP.

This avoids putting your machine at risk as well as provides a safe backup facility for all your images should something happen to PC.

There is no size limit for an image linked to the Forum (Hosted elsewhere), but when adding attachments to the post, the maximum size is 1MB or 1048KB, or a maximum of 4 attachments totaling to 1048KB
