Fellow Subaru owners in the Free State may find this interesting.

When I phoned the Subaru service centre in Bloemfontein yesterday, it seemed they had vanished into thin air with the phone just ringing.

Some investigation showed it's now situated at the Lambon multifranchise dealer at 145 Church Street (Peugeot, Mazda and some Chinese makes).

The Subaru service centre has been at three different adresses in the past year. I wonder why dealerships/workshops don't bother informing their existing clients when they move? An SMS surely isn't that much trouble. I had the same situation with Central Nissan in Bloemfontein when I tried to have my NP300 serviced there a while back.

Anyway, Lambons did the 162 500 km service on my XT today. They said one of their mechanics went for a week long training to work on Subarus.

The service cost me R2672.90: R1475 for 2,5 hours' labour, R501.60 for 5 liters 5w40 Liquimoly, R88.90 for the oil filter,  R182 for an air filter (don't know why this was replaced), R7.15 for the oil drain plug gasket, R90 for "consumables", and R328.25 VAT.

Subaru SA sent me an email to inform me, and I am not happy. What?  R590 excl. VAT per hour? Guess where I am not taking my car when the maintenance plan expire. If you want to complain about something, may I pm you an email address of the guy that informed me about this?

Ja I need to take my Outback for the 5000km Oil Change during the next 3 weeks
It will be my first time during my 11 year Subaru ownership, that I will take a car in for a service and I will not be provided with a courtesy car.

It is very difficult to drive 250km to take your car for a service, and be without a vehicle for a whole day.
In March I paid R513 (Vat included) per hour at Auto Body Worx for labour. This new rate is horrendously expensive and typical to French car dealerships.

So, to update on this, I took my Outback in on 15 June for the 5000km Oil Change.

I cannot complain about the service I have received as it is on par what I would receive and Volkswagen or Toyota in Bloem.

However, that does not mean it is good! I have driven Subaru for 12 years, and it has always been much nicer to deal with their Dealerships than any other brand.
They always understood that I have to drive far and they always had a courtesy car for me so that I can do other business during the day.
It is also appalling to take take your car in at 7:30 and only receive it at 15:00 for an Oil change service that will take no more than 15 minutes tops.
My Forester was at the old workshop in for the same length of time for the 100'000km service.

I am not unreasonable and understand that the Peugeot / Mazda dealership has a way more busy workshop but here is my problem:

I would have not bought a new Subaru if I knew they were going to move the service-centre to Peugeot or any other big Dealership!!

I did consider cancelling my Outback when I heard it, but then I would have lost my deposit.

I will use them only because I am forced by the maintenance plan to do so. Once it has expired, I will take it elsewhere and not buy a new Subaru again.
