Hi

I'm sure they is question has been asked before.. I can't seem to find the right answer though.

Need to replace my forester2005 SG rear shocks.. SLS from subaru is ridiculously expensive. took it to HiQ and another place and they couldn't find a solution. Subaru said they can change with shocks and springs for around 5k excluding labour.

so apparently you can remove this SLS and put springs and shocks...... I need to know the part numbers and brands for this please. Also if you know where to get in Durbs and approx cost. I found the pinned thread below.. Not clear whether springs/coils have to be from agents?

Thanks

I don't know the part numbers, but apparently the shocks from the base model Forester X will fit. They're not SLS. Wait for another member to confirm.

Subaru agent only.
You get a heavy duty coil as well about 1mm thicker material.
I always opt for those as everybody with a Foz load it at some stage.

interesting, Josny,
How would you request the "heavy duty" springs from the agents?

Hi
Part no for the REPLACEMENT coils I have used is S20380SA410.
The OEM part no listed in Subaru replacement part catalog is 20380SA240.
If I remember correctly, I have gage the standard and the replacement , there was 0.5 mm difference in diameter.

I am waiting on confirmation from Centurion.

As a matter of interest, what happens to the ride and handing after the swap?

Almost not noticeable. More sag, if you tow a lot.

I spoke to the guy from Pedders who is the direct importer last week. According to him all their springs are individually tested after manufacture which result in the springs not sagging after a few thousand k's. And I saw that their coils are really heavy duty compared to original ones. The ride is a little stiffer but still compliant enough. But that is on my H that came out with soggy suspension.

I also have to replace my rear SLS on my 2008 XS Forester SG. (150 500km)
Greg from Subaru PMB very helpful - advised to fit KYB struts with springs from
MIDLANDS SPRINGS - 190 Greyling St, Pietermaritzburg, 3201
Phone: 033 342 5030
Price I have been quoted for the springs is R800/side plus R400/side to fit.
They advised I get the struts 1st so they can be fitted with the springs one time.
still searching for struts locally......
