So I listened to some advice that made sense and went with the AT3 http://www.dunloptyres.co.za/Tyre-Range/SUV4x4/GRANDTREK%20AT%203
It wasnt at the top of my list but here is the advice:
Get AT's.
Get the cheapest AT, dont worry about brand.
Dont worry if you do mostly tar, when off road you will be thankful.
They were fitted within walking distance from my work and supplied a used spare for free to fit spare wheel well in same size 215\65\16
I hope this advice pays off...

Thanks for the info - how much did you end up paying ?

Regarding the used spare - are you not worried about the difference in circumference compared to the other tires?

Its ever so slight and not really worried
The same would be a new spare with worn tires which is what I had.

Those at3 tyres need more regular rotation than normal at tyres, so I would recommend rotation intervals of 5000km to avoid that dreaded "heel and toe" wear.

Yes, 5000km rotation interval free at dunlop. Just drop off car, they will do it when not busy and collect vehicle later.
Its VERY important these tires get rotated often.

thebus for President. Very good/valid advice.

I don't think you can rotate too often.

For that size tire I would look at other options as well.
215\645\16 is limited to most shops offering geolanders only.

Had four G015 215/65/16 Yokohama's fitted about two weeks ago at Hi-Q Bredasdorp to replace my G012's. Cost me R 6720 fitted, balanced and VAT included. Alignment extra. Tiger in Somerset could not nearly match the price.
Really satisfied at this stage.

Very good price.
I paid slightly (aprox R100/tyre) less, because I'm a regular, and I take time to chat to the guy, just around the corner from work.
