Had fumes in the cabin the last month or so. Have checked exhaust, fuel lines, etc.
Fuel consumption is down to 5/km/l.
Any insight is greatly appreciated.

How did you check the exhaust? Did you take the heat shields off?
Something in the engine bay is leaking
Is your water level ok?

With the consumption worsening it could be a leak or that the car is over fueling ..... ?

I had a similar experience when my centre exhaust box, the flat one right under the car, split along the seams. Fumes finding it's way in somewhere (?!), and fuel consumption worse, but not as bad as yours.

Checked again. Going to replace 220/l/h fuel pump with original tomorrow.
Going to remove complete exhaust system and inspect it.
Going through the Forester manual shows many other scenarios. I'm hoping it's something simple.

Exhaust system is under 2 years old. S/S Cowley system, but after the first cat removal I have my doubts about their welding, etc.

Found this little bugger unattached. Fumes are gone but still yard-glassing fuel!

That's just a breather for the crankcase. You should not get any exhaust fumes from that.

Maybe I have a bad nasal cavity. Dunno. No more fumes
