Hi guys, 2006 Foz X manual. When I clutch in, there is a metallic crinkling sound coming from in the engine bay. Seems central so I suspect from the gearbox area. Sounds a bit like an empty cool drink can being twisted, but its is short in duration. Any thoughts as to what this could be? A lubrication issues? Cable fraying? Something more sinister?  When I clutch out, no sound.  If I clutch in very slowly it is a series of individual clinks with sort of release in pressure at the end. Starts about 2/3rds through the pedal travel.

Cheers,

Andrew

Crinkling ???
Now that's a new sound

Maybe it's the pressure plate fingers...("release in pressure at the end")

There should not be any cable issues, AFAIK they all have hydraulic systems.
Do you feel anything on the pedal when pressing?

Could maybe be the spring on the pedal itself?

How many km's on the clutch?

Start with the two (10mm?) nuts at the top of the pedal arm against the firewall.

If I can give advice don't drive it like that
Mine made noise like that and it was caused by the release bearing and the heat wrapping around it that failed

Shortly after that the bearing unit went and did a little bit of damage to the drive shaft
I was lucky in that the damage was not major but could have done more damage if I was unlucky

May obviously be something else too but rather be careful

I have heard about that stub where the bearing slides on wearing/jamming/...
Then there's "permanent" gearbox housing damage.

Could be wrong
