Hi All

I'm looking for a window regulator (the whole window winding mechanism, including motor and switches) for the driver's side of my 2004 Forester XS.

The motor burnt out (in a cloud of smoke) - this is apparently quite a common problem with older Fozzies. I tried removing the motor only, but it's integral with the winder.

TIA

I would try for 2nd hand, otherwise RockAuto, but looks like you're in for around $100.00 plus postage +- $30 - 40... I've heard that either certain Nissan or Toyota ones, are the same, not sure how true that is...

Good luck!

The window control switches are made by Nissan, maybe the motor is also used in a Nissan?

Here are pics from when I repaired mine. It was not burnt out, but the shaft splines had stripped inside the "gearbox".

just remember, when looking for part on websites, note that a lot of cars are left hand drive, so driver side could be our passenger side.
Rather try to distinguish between RHS/LHS.

You only need the motor, not the whole mechanism too.  Motor does bolt loose.
If switch was faulty it likely burnt (Bernd  :P) the motor out.  That is what happen to many of us.
New motor from agents is around 2.5k, switch around 2k.
Motor some of us have successfully imported from RockAuto. Important to check you getting RHS (passenger side in US market) to get SA drivers side motor.  Switch you have to buy from agents.  Few people tried to repair the auto switch without success.

We have fixed both our drivers switches. And the motors do not burn out.
