Hi Everyone,

have been a member for a while, lurking around and really enjoying the posts. Subaru has been on my radar for some time.

I guess I'm now ready to make a decision and I need your help please...

My needs would be for everyday use and towing the offroad trailer - Echo 1 - to nearby campsites in Gauteng. Not planning on any "hardcore" off-roading or long Botswana type trips at the moment.

I have been driving my current vehicles for 12 and 13 years respectively, and I plan to do at least the same with the Forester. I'm not much mechanically minded thus thought to buy as new as possible.

Here are the options I'm considering, both at roughly the same price:
2018 XT 20000KM
2018 XS Prem - new

The XT is fantastic - but I'm worried about maintenance costs after the service plan, and what if the Turbo goes?
The XT seems to be slightly thristier as what can be expected.
The XS should be more than capable for my needs, with what can be assumed lower maintenance and fuel costs over the lifetime of ownership.

The trojan horse I heard about today is that the 2019 model might be launched earlier than expected with very competitive pricing. Yes, it is only in the 2.0L engine but judging from US specs to the interior, new platform, eyesight and all the other nice bits it might be worth the wait.

If you guys where in my shoes - how would you go about making this decision?

Thanks

personally, i would get the current shape 2.0 XT. better value for money and more fun. yes, slightly heavier on fuel, but that all depends on the right foot.

new 2.0 power is disappointing, less than 200Nm....... :o

nope, 2.5 or 2.0 XT - both current is the clear winners in my books!!
Mine:
2014 Ford Ranger Double Cab
Honda Varadero

Hers:
2012 Fortuner 3.0D4-D 4x4...don't ask
