Well, if you get it to the bush it will probably be eaten by ants because it is so slooooow!!

Test drove a CVT model and I could not believe how slow it was. Guess the XT spoiled me :-(

Or the CVT just feels slow...

The car is NOT slow!!

Please guys, this is not a performance car, and never was meant to be. there is NOTHING wrong with 110kw and 196 nm of torque.

I've done 7000 in our car now and it just keeps getting better and better. Consumption is also way down to 7.2 on the last tank.  Absolutely relaxed cruising at an indicated 130 to 140 is a breeze.

As for off-road ability, one of my customers got back from Mozambique yesterday and is blown away with the off-road ability of the XV. One section that managed to catch out a Fortuner and an ML 350 - he coped with, with ease, then on Sunday apparently managed to make a Range Rover look stupid in really soft sand.

These are serious off-road vehicles - just get turbo and WRX/STi out of your heads.

No, but you must be fair to the car. It was never designed as a quick car . Your XT was.

It's the same as saying that your XT is slow, when compared with a Ferrari.

Apples with apples...

Everything is slow at the reef. Even a 280kw Lumina.

Saying that. The XV is a great crossover vehicle, just like the Forester and the other models.

Its not a 4x4 and wont rock crawl and decend into dongas and such. It will probably forge some water crossing and streams fine, but it will never be a ML or a ranger rover when the road gets tough. I can just imagine what the interior would look like after some water go in through the doors.

Agreed that sand and mud the AWD shines. But the open diffs are still its number one enemy. Surely owners who buy the XV realize that its good for gravel, sand and mud.

Id hate to get all those pretty plastic bits scruffed up on a trail. Finally a real crossover hatch that can go from Durban on Friday, Up Sani, through Lesotho and come back with a great story to tell the coworkers.

Maybe I need to drive it to be totally convinced its worth its money...

nope - you will probably compare it to the top of the range X1 or something like that.

Same way you compared the Nissan DIESEL to the Forester S-Edition!

lol

but on a serious note, compare the XV to the ASX from Mitsubishi and lets talk again, you'll find that the XV is not underpowered for a 2.0!

110kw from a new generation engine is underpowered im afraid.

196nm is also a little on the low side. Opel was making 115kw and 210nm out of a 2.0l Astra motor in 95. I would love to see that thing pull a trailer with a quad on up the slightest of mountain pass.

The very least they could have done is give the poor XV a 2.5 engine and a diesel option.
