Had one of these when I was in my early 20's, don't have any photos of it. Sad day when I sold it, it went to a farmer who was going to use it as a farm bike. Wonder if it is still running ?
I miss having a bike every time I see one.

Sold my WR 2 weeks ago. Ordered me one of these bad boys.
I was looking at a KTM 690, but the Husky has the new 690 Duke motor with more horses.
That, and the "local" dealer in Bloem has much better aftersales service than the KTM dealer.

That was my first bike when I was 14 years old. It was pretty hammered and spent more time in a workshop than in the garage, but was a perfect beginners bike, as I dropped it and myself several times(Still have some scars). By the time I was 16, my dad bought me a brand new DT125 and I managed not to crash or destroy it or myself...

I think the 2017 models have a little more power than the 2016 models.

There is talk of KTM bringing in an 890.

Yes, the Duke 690 motor the 2017 comes with, is 74hp where the 2016 has 68hp. 74hp is a nice round 55KW.

According to rumours and speculation on the internet, it may turn out the KTM might abandon the 690 and let Husqvarna carry that on,which incidentally, is actually owned by KTM since 2013.

So, Husqvarna will have the "690" Enduro bike, and KTM will go forward with a twin cylinder Adventure bike, hitting the GS800 and African Twin head-on.
This is all speculation, and many 690 fans think it will be a huge mistake for KTM to abandon such a popular model. Only time will tell.

Personally, if I was in the market for that type of bike, I would take the African Twin before the BMW and KTM.
Also, the Husky dealer in Bloemfontein is also the Honda dealer. So, if in the future I decide to trade the 701 for a Twin, it will be a smoother transaction.

Toemaar, ek sal nooit 'n adventure bike koop nie. As ek wil gaan "Adventure" klim ek, vrou en kind (een van die dae "kinders") in die Outback en ry.

Part of the reason I went with the Husky, is when I told my wife of my plans, the only thing she said is not to buy the KTM... Purely because of the great service we have received from Honda Wing Bloemfontein on our bikes in the past.
