Had the veichle serviced At Subaru Racing Developments- SRD. They did amazing work and were very friendly and helpful. also removed a pesky cat for not much extra.

I can deffintley recommend them to anyone in the guateng area who wants quick friendly service.!

That is great news.  Thanks for the feedback.  Did they do a re-tune after removing the cat as well?

Is there still a service agent in Bloem? Just asking. They'll probably rip you a new one, for 100K service
Just for the record, there still is a service agent in Bloem.

After a recent trip to Mozambique, while following a Pajero down a soft beach sand track, it became obvious from the flattened middleman behind me that I need to increase the Foresters clearance.

Looking for info brought me to this happy place on the web for Forester owners.

I called HI-Q in Hatfield to check on the availability of the tires that Steve suggested in a post, and asked if they could recommend somebody around Pretoria that works on Subarus. He suggested Tino Gouws, a former Subaru mechanic that has opened a shop called TG Motorsport in Villeria. Searching on Google for Tino's details brought me straight back here to  foresterforum.co.za where he was recommended.

So it seems that all Subbie roads lead back here.

They are also mentioned in an article on rallyworld.net:

"I am very impressed with TG MOTORSPORT, for the enthusiasm and professionalism in the way they prepare and service my vehicle .... "

http://www.rallyworld.net/index.php/northern-regions/scc-er-dekmas-rally/811-words-of-a-winner-coplast-team-delmas-rally-review

I called them and found them to be very friendly and knowledgeable. Between Tino and his brother Gert they own 5 Subarus.
I'll take the Machine around tomorrow to get advice and a quote.

Their contact details are:

TG Motorsport (aka "The Twins")

  • Tino Gouws: 072-724-0938
  • Gert Gouws: 071-361-2481

I phoned Andre now.

He got a list of customers from Hylton.

He is based in Northgate.
Works from home, but has a day job.
Does services, hardware and software upgrades, the usual stuff.
He only works on scoobies after hours and weekends, so he usually takes one car at a time.

WRC has closed down due to Hylton having health problems.

Hope all works out well for you Hylton.

So we now have another contact  :)

Why would the 200k service be so expensive privately?

+1 for Tino Gouws.

As for the cost at Wayne Hay, these guys are cheaper than SSA, but they do not run charities (Wayne also has a staff member to pay) and even the aftermarket parts are not cheap when compared to aftermarket parts for Toyota, VW etc..

The only cheap way is DIY if you have such inclinations. Manuals are available at http://ken-gilbert.com/impreza-manuals.  Just be VERY careful with rotating the camshafts on a DOHC engine, you may damage valves if you are not.

Up to now I've ordered my spares from www.rockauto.com or Subaru, depending on the prices.
