If the dealers dont mind chiming in, what is an acceptable trade in rate for a forester.  Im sure it varies from dealer to dealer, but in general.

very difficult to even attempt to answer this one Steve, lot of factors to consider:

milieage vs year
service history
condition of vehicle
tyres
etc

lets say you take two exact same model Foresters, same color - both 2008
Forester 1 has done 189000km partial service history

Forester 2 has done 104000km with full service history

Question is, which one would the next customer rather buy?

Forester 1 might have more mileage but is as clean as a New Car, where Forester 2 has good mileage but condition of the car is really bad......

hope you trying to see the scenarios here, that is why i say, REALLY can't give acceptable comments...

Also to add:

The reason the dealership gave me a crappy trade in was because of the 100 000 km services that cost so much

Well this is what he told me.

Question is, Will a well maintained Forester with acceptable yearly km, still get book value on trade?

Understandable if the owner pulled the car through his arse that he will get less on a trade. But face it, most of the Forester owners pamper their cars.

I was offered such a variety of prices for my 2007 XT, full service history with the dealer, 197,000km and in excellent nick, if I have to say so myself! Some dealers went straight to the brokers and wanted to offer me R50k!
Nathan in Pietermaritzburg offered me R130,000.00 over the phone, trusted my assesment of my car and I did the deal on my 2009 SH with him over the phone. I have utmost respect for these guys as my experience has been nothing but exceptional with them, including after sales, etc!

Its an SG registered Registered Dec 2008 IIRC, the service book says 08/01/2009

Would have been one of the last registered.

Without seeing your XT you should be offered between R100k-R110k pending on dealer. should you sell it privately you could ask up to R139k - very good kilometers, and the model is popular.

my opinion, hope it helps.

You can specify the exact model, then go to the results page and play around with sliders and mileage. The price shown seems to be book value, and is influenced by the mileage and condition you specify. I can confirm that it was very accurate for my Astra Coupe.

But remember that a dealer will try to maximise his profit by offering a lower amount.
