N/A Tech Chat / Re: Oil filter change
« on: May 30, 2018, 06:50:57 AM »
Ok, thank you...now I've acquired a oil filter wrench and I'm ready to remove the old filter.
One question....can I remove it without draining the oil?

In other words is the filter safely above the oil level in the sump?... in which case the only oil that one has to contend with will be in the filter itself..and I'll take the advice of removing it, once I have loosened it with the wrench, with a disposable insulated mug to catch any bits of oil and hold the filter on removal.
Sure, simply warm the engine up then remove the filter with a drain pan below it.

Open road I can sort of believe, in town, not so much.

My best has been 9.9l/100km with a fully loaded car, 3 adults + 1 kid from Harrismith to Centurion.
To get 400km in town you'd need to be getting around 11.5l/100km assuming you're filling up when the light comes on.

My 2007 Forester XT does about 400 - 420K's city driving
Highway open road I get between 500 and 570 per tank when doing average 120 or so
I'm calling shenanigans...

Rather organize something exciting like a track day, then you can take as many photos as you like of Subarus being used for what they were built for.

Yep it is the ballast...

stripped my bumper and everything else last night after buyign and fitting new D2R bulbs... drivers side headlight is still faulty and ballast had water in it.
after cleaning it and sealing it... it still not working.
Trying to get another OEm ballast is a problem and some guys are saying that putting an after arket ballast might be a problem and mgiht require additional connectors as the after market HID kits are not for D2R bulbs...

Any advise out there i would appreciate it!

Thanks

Nothing very special about D2R, I had aftermarket Morimoto ballasts running them until I've upgraded to H1 projectors, using the same ballasts. Additional wiring was required, yes.

Well done, it looks very neat.

There are only 2 Subaru tuners I'd trust - Pyro/Julian and Chett. If you had a Tactrix dongle I guess they could try remote tuning?

You can't tune the TCU directly, they're manipulating it via the DBW tables. Not sure if your model is cable or DBW?

What do you want to change in the TCU?

Now is probably a good time to upgrade to H1 bi-xenon projectors while the lights are open. They're so much better than the useless stock things.
