Title: Scooby Fest 2015!
Post by: BlueBlob on February 17, 2015, 07:38:45 AM
Hi All

We are excited to announce that ScoobyFest 2015 has been arranged and booked for 21 March 2015.
This year's event will be hosted at the Gerotek Facility in Pretoria West.

Driving activities will include the following:
1. Skid Pan - Gerotek has a huge wet skid pan which as always will be a firm favourite.
2. Dynamic handling track - A short, smooth track designed to test a cars handling at medium speeds. We will have some sessions with driving instructors to assist with the correct lines, braking points, apexes etc. There will also be open session where guys who want to can challenge their best lap times at full pace.
3. 4X4 Couse - This off-road course is designed to test vehicles like Foresters, outbacks and XVs. Professional Instructors will be available to offer advice and assistance.
4. 1/4 Mile strip - The ever-popular 1/4 mile drag strip - a 12m wide, 1km long flat strip for drag racers to measure their cars on ultimate the acceleration test.

We are still working on some details like catering and the day's activity schedule, but info on these will follow shortly.
The plan is to have at least 100 cars attending but we can host and accommodate about 130.

Entries and registrations will open soon so stay tuned to the forum and Facebook for details.

;D perhaps I'll enter the "handling track" bit, to see how much squeal I can get out of those AT tyres...
Have done the 4x4 course before, but should still be fun.

Join us for the biggest event of the calendar - now at a new venue! ScoobyFest is moving to the Red Star Raceway.

Red Star has all the facilities we could hope for and more. We will have the use of their race circuit, the skid pan and the quarry 4X4 course for the entire day. As always the pit straight is the perfect track for head 2 head elimination drags and is quite a bit longer than what we have used in the past.

Red Star is in the Delmas area and about 45min from Fourways. There are great facilities for a family day outing, including jungle gyms, swimming pools and a great outdoor area for kids to play. Full canteen and bar facilities are available. On-site accommodation and a camping area for people wanting to stay over on the Friday or Saturday night is also available - more info at www.facebook.com/RSR.Delmas

Red Star has traditionally been a motor cycle only facility but they have recently opened their doors to car clubs as well. This means SOCSA will be one of the lucky few car clubs who have had access to their track.

Costs

R150 for Paid up SOCSA Members

R250 for non Members

Spectators are free

Passengers - R50 - signed idenmity needed

Hurry!  Entries are limited to 150 drivers. Maximum 2 drivers per car.  Entries are to be done by participants themselves only. No block entries please.  Signed indemnities for each driver are needed for the event, please complete the form that you will receive at with your registration confirmation and email or fax it to the Committee.

What happened to Gerotek BlueBob?

From Mr Wayne Hay

"Unfortunately we were not able to run the event as we wanted to at Gerotek so we have secured a new venue. The date has not changed, it remains the 21st of March 2015.

I am delighted to announce that Red Star Raceway will host this years ScoobyFest. Red Star has all the facilities we could hope for and more. Registration for ScoobyFest 2015 will be opening very soon so keep an eye out on the events calendar. We have limited entries available and you don't want to miss out on this one."

Unfortunately plans didnt work out Gerotek.

Subaru South Africa are bringing the new Outback to ScoobyFest, which will have only arrived at the dealerships a day or two before the event. They are also bringing the "Car of the Year" finalist WRX and the new STI to Red Star.
For anybody wondering if ScoobyFest is an event to bring the family to the answer is YES!
Red Star has jungle gyms, swimming pools and there will be pedal go-karts as well. There are well maintained grassy areas with shade trees, perfect for a picnic.

That is correct. The other convoys are meeting on the highway as far as I know. We will join at Subaru JHB, hence our time being a bit earlier. If we leave at 06:25 we should be able to get to the dealership with time to spare.

As Blueblob mentioned elsewhere, no speeding, shenanigans or anything like that. We want to get to RSR without having to bail anybody out, a bunch of rumbling Scoobs are sure to draw some unwanted attention. :D

Don't laugh, I remember that kid being referred to as something like redheaded spawn of Satan, or something like that...
 ;D

I'm planning to do the 4x4 track and perhaps the "Dynamic handling track" if they will still have it.  Being on AT tyres and higher than normal, I'm not competing against anyone else on the handling bit.  Offroad... well... I've already challenged RSdog on SOCSA to a duel on the 4x4 track.  Only thing is, the 300wkW he has available, is on an Impreza  ;D

A huge THANK YOU to everybody who attended ScoobyFest this year. We had a great day out at Red Star, with around 118 drivers participating in the various event.
I did not get to drive around the 4X4 course but from all reports it was a big hit. The skid pan, drags, main circuit and time attack were all very popular as well.
Keep your eyes open for pics and videos of the days activities.
