Yes.

I really like the wing. Its a beast of a bike, but such a great machine. So effortless! you dont know about wind on the bike, like a car with 2 wheels.

405 kg dry...

If you ever drop it you will need a high-lift jack!

But I'm jealous, I love those kind of bikes.

It is heavy, luckily the crashbars prevent it from falling over flat. If it falls over, best is to leave it and act like it wasnt you.

My uncle used to have a wing. We used to say: "Daai woonstelblok wat jy ry is te groot vir jou!" :)

Dropped the bike yesterday morning while taking a tight turn. Crash bars caught it as I suspected. No damage at all.

It was a little heavy though...

CBR600F

Great package! I was very suprised with this bike. I liked the 600RR, but this bike is much more rider and pillion friendly and you can still do stupid speeds through the bends!

Best of all, its R85k, 35k cheaper than the 600RR ABS.

New Ride for the week.

Nissan Np200 1.5 DCI SE Retail R188 000

Diesel is a bit rough and noisy, but a lekker little bakkie with 200nm torque.

Post by: Bravofox on February 13, 2012, 10:48:46 AM
In the small bakkie class, I like the np200. The fact that the rear axle sits so far on the back, causes it to carry it's load much better.

It also carries 800 kg :)

Not that much more, but it makes a difference at the end of the day.

Although, If you are going to buy a bakkie, you can buy a true 1 tonner for 177k (np300)

Title: My ride for the week
Post by: Stev0 on February 13, 2012, 05:02:17 PM
Die Fazer is n great bike.

2012 Hyundai Accent 1.6GLS

This car is a great taste of things to come from Korea.

Best part is, its only R169 000

Great interior
Feisty Engine (90kw)
Ipod/usb/Blue tooth
One touch windows
Car phone
PDC
Huge boot
Fogs

Light on fuel - Car puter says 6.8l/100km (lead foot every now and then)

Drove a direct competitor (Toyota 1.6 sprinter - R240 000) and the Korean, pulled better and felt of the same interior comfort as the Toyota.

The only negative I have is the wheels. 14 inches are too small. They could have upped the price by R5k and fitted 16/17inch alloys.
Title: My ride for the week
Post by: Manfred on February 16, 2012, 02:25:55 PM
Amazing, 2012 and 90 Kw.

Still trying to get the power of the old RSi, Honda Vtec and Corolla RSi/RXi.

But I bet it drives way better than the old ones.

My RSi was flat under 3K revs.  My 1.3 corolla pulled better.
Title: My ride for the week
Post by: Stev0 on February 16, 2012, 02:34:01 PM
Funny you mention that.

I agree. The RSI/RXI and the Vtec were pretty gutless under 4500 rpm.

This car is rated 103kw in Korea but only 90kw here.

Perhaps it is really 103kw because, both my mate and I agree, that this thing runs like a 2.0l!

In fairness, its a 1.6 DOHC with VVT.

Honda Accord 2.4 Tourer Exclusive Manual

2.4i-Vtec 7500rpm bliss. 148kw

Dont mock it till you've tried it. Its not fast, but it has some pace.

I prefer the diesel model since it has more torque, but this car is so smooth! All the bells and whisles, Even lane assist, brake assist and what nots. Really good value for money at *cough* R420 000

Love the Accords.

To stir some more.

does the Outback have

Lane Keep Assist
Collision Mitigation Braking System
Adaptive Cruise Control
PDC front and rear
Bi Xenon with Turning
Car phone
10 Speaker sound

Put it to you this way, to buy the BMW in the same class will cost about the same, but will cost you about another R90k+ to get onto the same specification level, which comes std in the Honda.

But the Honda does not have, AWD or ground clearance :(

The Accords interior is superb.

vs

You can buy the 2.0 Sedan for R300k and still get this great interior. I dont know why Bmw and Merc is still selling C180's.

Base Merc's and Bmw's suck.

I just came back from Malmesbury and I gave the car a bit of stick. Runs pretty well for the size and the lack of torque. Once you get it around the 6-7300rpm mark that motor sings like a Type R. I looked down and I was doing just over 210kph.

Needless to say, 140 from there on in, felt very slow.

Or are they trying to tell you that the car will not stop with itís brakes it will just mitigate the collision a bit

Title: My ride for the week
Post by: Stev0 on March 13, 2012, 08:55:57 AM
We all know where this is going :)

The GS is a better touring bike. Its comfier, better on fuel and better for the wife (happy wife happy life)

The 990 is a big Mx bike with superb suspension. If you like playing, its the better bike to have.

Only gripe is the gearing. Its too tall for my liking. You can stall 1st gear pretty easily if you start riding on the clutch.

Oh and the steering radius...You might as well turn around a truck in a main road.
Title: My ride for the week
Post by: Manfred on March 13, 2012, 10:49:14 AM
Naaaaa, I'm not one of those doing the old BM/KTM thing.

Just asking cause I had the 1200 GS before they brought out the Adventure.

But as you said, "better for the wife (happy wife happy life)", I wont even discuss it further.

Wife is set on the BM, don't know if I want to spend so much money though.

I like that KTM motard, not sure whats its called, but damn it sounds nice with a set of pipes.

Picked this up on tuesday.

The bike is fitted with a yoshi and it sounds great. I must admit though, I've been riding it pretty hard and its holding up fine. Dit a couple of jumps and I expected it to bottom out, but it didnt.

Wheelies great too. ^..^

went to atlantis dunes straight away! the sand was very soft and the bike felt underpowered on the way in (thick loose sand tracks) Once inside, the bike went better.

The 650R has much much more power.

This is a great trail bike. Inexpensive and durable. This is like a mule, 1st gear will crawl up anything.

If I cant find a 650R under 10 000km (I will look really really really hard), this is the route I would go.

LOL! Eintlik die regte fiets nou vir my is so XR650.

Maar 'n 1000cc pad bike is waarvoor my gat jeuk.

Title: My ride for the week
Post by: Stev0 on March 15, 2012, 11:15:59 AM

This week

Nissan Xtrail Dci
(http://www.topcar.co.za/sites/default/files/imagecache/full_story_image/publish/115528_Full_MedRes_0.jpg)

Impressed by the Xtrail. Its so damn comfortable, but lacks USB audio input. Diesel is economical at 7l/100kph, unless you need to rush home for an emergency at 190kph for 70km and that creeps to 10l/100. Maybe a little laggy when in a hurry.

Hey Bud,

Sertao is a great bike. Biggest let down was when I found out its 98% identical to the dakar (I parked them side by side)

R90k (heated grips and abs) is too much. Its a R70k bike.

The Rio is awesome. It seems to have golf 6 lines in there.

90K, isnt that F650GS pricing..?
I still have my DR at the moment, thinking of upgrading to maybe the G series or even F series.

I went to the Mini website to check out the Mini One.
I'm impressed with its fuel consumption.
Just under R200K is quite pricey for me.

I think I'll be staying with the DR, just farkle the kak out of it.

R80 00 for the G650 GS.

And howz this one, R16000+ for a G650GS Akrapovic Sport Silencer.

Top of the range Adventure now costs just under R180 000

They have priced them out of the market with the sertao. Only true dakar enthusiasts will think of buying it or those who are conned by the lifestyle of the brand. GS riders, KTM riders, XT rides all ride together and some only think they ride machines that make them look cool.

The Mini One is priced well, if you consider the entry level Corsa is R165k. Mini is tiny in the back, but it makes for a fun drive, even the slowest one I had was a jol.

I did about 600km on 40l and I spent most of the open road at 180kph. So, if you stick to the speed limit it would be light, maybe not 20km/l, but im guessing 17km/l at least. The Kia is better specced, but its not a Mini and will never be.

I have a soft spot for the mini now :)

Tiny turbo so it has very little lag. Fun to drive.

Heavy on fuel :P 140km, tank on half.

Assuming you mean the Terios?

Although its only 4x2 and RWD. It does have some decent clearance and articulation.

According to the Opel web-site, yes.

I really like the Nissan Juke DIG-T. Has a wee bit more of ground clearance and looks funky. Many says it is ugly.

many do say that - me one of them, have you had a look at the interior off the Juke yet?

Chev Lumina UTE SSV Manual.

Most unpractical car ever. But really who cares!

Its pretty powerful and relatively fast and can be fuel efficient too. So far I've gotten it down to 11.9l/100km, but with a little bit of toying around its back up at 19.2l/100km

Ill take it on the open road and Ill be determined to break the 10l/100km mark.

Dont ever drive one, it will corrupt you.Im telling you, in manual form, its EVIL!

After the lumina, ive had the Honda Civic 1.8 Exclusive and the Nissan Qashqai 1.5dci.

The Nissan impressed me with its on road and gravel road manners, riding on pretty fat 215/65/16 inch tires. It was a front wheel drive only so the front washed around a bit. Not much performance to speak of, but returned 15km/l on overall consumption. I did drive from Riebeek west to Canal walk in 35 minutes at 170kph most the way too.

Right now I have the Honda CRZ Hybrid. I really like the car. Its a little small, but its so different and gets a lot of attention everywhere.

Going to a mates mothers birthday tonight at Melkbos 4x4, so ill naturally be taking the forester :P

Must admit, the pajero is pretty good offroad.

Had it in the mountains earlier and it just goes everywhere... over rocks, through dongas and up steep loose mountain roads.

Low range and diff locks really help so much more than just symmetrical awd.

Title: My ride for the week

a whole lotta 110kw!

I will see if i can grab the diesel executive next week. I might be gatvol of Crv's tough :P

Decent amount of space, its very deceiving from outside. So far standing on 8.5l/100km which I dont think is too bad for an underpowered CUV. (speeds between 120-150kph)
Title: My ride for the week
Post by: Manfred on June 07, 2012, 09:37:45 AM
Was a lucky guess.
Most 2.0 Ltr's are 110 Kw nowadays.

8.5l/100km........I'm getting that driving a 2.5.
I feel much better about my consumption now.
Title: My ride for the week
Post by: Stev0 on June 07, 2012, 09:48:20 AM
Yep, thats the problem with big bodies and under powered engines. I believe the 2.4 uses the same amount of fuel.

After driving the CRV this weekend, the consumption went up to 9.7l/100km. I was driving a little ambitiously.

Anyhow,

picked up a Kia Rio Sedan and another Golf 6 Cabriolet Highline (118kw)

Strangely the comfort model I had previously, was fitted with all the goodies of the highline and still came in cheaper. (R330k vs R362K)

Not much difference 0-200kph between the turbo only (90kw) comfortline. The highline (118kw) does run better from 200kph - 240kph, but who really spends their life driving their cabriolet at those speeds.

I proffered the comfortline with the extras

So the wife's away and I also got a "ride for the week"!
... NO, I'm just using another CAR!
Borrowing her A3 2.0T, which had been fed some extra mieliepap... good fun, even in 2nd she runs the traction control light solid on all the way through till redline... but I reckon she then runs as heavy on juice as an XT, so I'm gonna have to slow down.
Damn I miss having an airpump on my own car!
Perhaps one day the chance will come to drop an XT motor into my X...
---
here's the Phantom, as the wife affectionately calls her - quite appropriate, very unassuming car, but boy when you plant the right foot, she's gone...

1.6 Turbo Tekna met leer.

Lekker tjor.

0-100 in 8s
Corsa was 7.6(ek dink)

Nice, how does she feel compared to the WRX and the previous Sti?
Title: Re: My ride for the week
Post by: Stev0 on January 20, 2015, 07:34:27 AM
I've have never driven the wide body WRX. This car is much more refined than my hawk. Its also considerably slower, which is normal (tuned vs stock)
I can tell you that with the torque vectoring it has crazy lateral grip and hugs a corner very nicely.

Using torque for some bench mark figures (might not be as accurate, it was hotter yesterday)

2015 WRX 2.0 MT 0-100kph 5.6s
2015 STI 2.5 MT 0-100 6s
(brochure claims 4.9s)

I can launch a scooby and the biggest thing that hurts the 0-100kph times are the 3 gearshifts you need to complete before 100kph. The shifting on this car is much shorter than on the hawk and does not like to be mistreated. I also think that the low 0-100kph could have been done with 100 octane fuel as it was also done is Australia.

Midrange and topend the STI is quicker than the WRX.

The car has essentially grown up. Sort of from the SG to the SJ in forester terms. Still an amazing car.

I don't know of anyone who has come close to the claimed 0-100 of the new STI? 6 is about standard.  I think my car is on about par.

Why make the STI a 2.5??
Personally I think it is because of the aftermarket tuning. That is just my theory.
There is nothing wrong with the JDM 2.0l STi though?

Why make the STI a 2.5??

They are still running same motor they ran in the 2006 Hawk STI.

I think the FA20 will be a game changer, especially in the economy side of things.

Plenty. But speaking of, those tires are pretty good. I need to check what they are.
