Wheels, Tires and Brakes. / Cracks on tread
« on: May 18, 2017, 10:41:31 AM »
A couple of questions for my expert friends. I am sure someone else had a similar experience. At 90 000km the Geolandar G95s on my 2012 Forester XS are showing small cracks on the outer parts of the tread - no cracks on the sidewalls. There still is a remarkable amount of tread left. Should I become concerned and replace the tyres or are they safe enough for some more service? Can the cracks be as a result of exposure to the sun, or are the tyres just reaching the end of their lifetime?

Wheels, Tires and Brakes. / Geolandar G95

I need some advice from my fellow Forester drivers about my tyres. I drive a 2012 Forester XS that was imported with Geolander G95 225/55/17 tyres. At 80 000 km I suppose I am approaching the end of their life (on my previous 2003 Forester X I had to replace my tyres at 87 000 km after an unfortunate sharp rock. My problem is that I cannot replace the tyres with Geolandar G95 in South Africa. I saw a Gumtree-ad for one brand new G95. If I could get two more, I've got a set of four, but I suppose I'll have to settle for something like G051. I like to have the same type for a spare, but who wants to buy 5 new tyres with one brand new one in the boot?
Another question, while I have to replace all my tyres, will anyone recommend changing to 225/60/17? My previous Forester had 215/65/16 instead of 215/60/16 with perfect results.

General Chat / Temperature
« on: September 08, 2014, 08:28:51 AM »
Hi everyone,

I've got a small problem in my two year old Forester which I hope you can help me solve. It isn't something that will leave me beside the road with a broken down vehicle, but it is irritating. Somehow the outside temperature shown on the dashboard got stuck on 15 degrees - no matter what the temperature is. The car still is within its 3 year warranty. Is it something that could be fixed as part of the warranty or what can I do about it myself? I live in Centurion close to Centurion Subaru.

Can any of you more serious offroaders than me please help. I am buying a brand new Forester XS to replace my 2003 X. I live in an area that has more potholes than good tarred road. The XS has 225/55 17 inch wheels compared to 215/65 16 inch on the old X. Do you think the lower profile tyres are more prone to pothole damage than the 16 inchers? The dealer will swop the wheels on the XS for those on a new diesel, which are the same size as the 2003 X if I want to. I don't really want to swop becase the 17 inch wheels look so much better than the others, but if I can spare myself trouble by doing so I will consider. By the way, the price difference between the 17 and 16 inch tyres are about R900.

General Chat / Subaru Dienste

Chris
